Note: This page is a compilation of data with specific information on spells and general spell behavior. The spell data can also be found on the individual warband pages.

Spellcasters have a total of 5 spell spell slots and start with one spell, bringing the total of trainable spells to 4. Training a new spell cost 2 spell points and training the mastery version (including the starting spell) costs 4 spell points.

Note that Basic and Mastery versions of Spell Buffs and Debuffs stack, even in case of non-stackable Spell effects. So, for example, Call of Vanhel Basic (+2 Movement, +15% Armour Absorption) can be stacked with its Mastery version (+4 Movement, +30% Armour Absorption) by another Caster on the same Zombie for the total of +6 Movement and +45% Armour Absorption. This gives a reason to have multiple Buff/Debuff Casters and to have a large spread of Mastered and Basic Spells between them. Exception: Idol of Change.

Spellcasting

Spells in Mordheim: City of the Damned are unique for each warband and Hired Sword. There are 2 different types of magic: Arcane and Divine.

The Divine spellcasters hail from the Sisters of Sigmar warband, Witch Hunter warband and the Wolf Priest of Ulric Hired Sword. Arcane spellcasters are included in all other warbands and the Doomweaver.

Spellcasting can be dangerous. Not only is there a chance that the spell fails with no effect but there is a chance that a negative effect (Divine Wrath for the Divine spellcasters and Tzeentch's Curse for the Arcane spellcasters) happens as well. As more spell attempts are made by the same spellcaster in the same turn, the chance of negative effects increases with each individual attempt. These chances are independent from each other so there are several outcomes that can happen from casting a spell.

  1. The spell fails and there is no negative effect
  2. The spell fails plus there is a negative effect
  3. The spell succeeds and there is no negative effect
  4. The spell succeeds plus there is a negative effect
